Jack and the Beanstalk

Our 2008 panto was "Jack & the Beanstalk". Performance dates were the 18th & 19th January 2008. Given below is a list of the characters in the play, and a brief synopsis. Jack and the Beanstalk was written C Day (a founder member of the Roundabout Revellers) and J Charrot.

Synopsis

• Scene 1 - Village scene.

  Dotty intercepts Jack telling the children a story and tells him they are so poor that they must sell Cow Pat. They try to keep this from Nosey Parker.Jack and Jilly Parker reminisce about old times.

• Scene 2 - Village scene

  Jack introduces Cow Pat, and his friend Des sympathises with him.Dotty sends Jack off to market. Nosey Parker meets a mysterious stranger, to whom Jack reluctantly sells Cow Pat.

• Scene 3 - village scene

  Children discuss Jack's sale. Dotty is furious to discover that Jack has sold Pat for a handful of beans. Jack and Des wath the beans grow. Jack decides to climb the beanstalk.

• Scene 4 - Ogre's kitchen

  We meet Princess Opal. Jack and Opal meet and get on well, to the delight of Olga Ogre. The Ogre returns, Jack hides. The Ogre is comforted by his golden hen, which Jack recognises and snatches.

• Scene 5. Ogre's Kitchen

  Jack returns to the Ogre's kitchen, followed by Nosey Parker, who meetes the Ogre. Olga calms the Ogre with his magic purse, which is then taken by Jack

• Scene 6 - Village scene

  Children discuss current situation. Nosey and Dotty discuss their children. Jack introduces Opal to Dotty. Des brings Cow Pat home. Opal tells Jack she cannot leave the Ogre's castle for good until she gets her necklace back. Meanwhile, Des and Jilly pair up. All discuss a plot to recover the necklace.

• Scene 7 - Ogre's kitchen

  Jack and Opal persuade Olga to help them.They try to get the Ogre to sleep, but he awakes and catches Jack.Nosey arrives to help, and the necklace is returned. Jack proposes to Opal.

• Finale - village scene

  Party for Jack and Opal. All questions except one are answered!
