Our first panto, back in the mists of 2007, was everybody's favourite: Cinderella. The classic, timeless story, whereby the heroine is loved by one who thinks he is not worthy of her, but then she proves that she is the unworthy one by being overly impressed by a title. Well, something like that, anyway. Well, the public loved us, so we could not rest on our laurels, let alone our hardys. Next year, the panto chosen was again a classic - Jack and the beanstalk - but we decided that we had to break completely with tradition and have the male lead played by (gasp) a boy! Fortunately, we did not tell people this before we sold the tickets so once again we played to full houses, and our performances, complete with our daring innovation, seemed to be well received. As with our 2007 production, Jack was adapted from a script originally written by Clare Day and Jessica Charot for the Caldecote Drama Group. That brings us to our panto for 2009, which had a distinctly naughtycal, timber-shivering theme: pirates on the starboard (well, centre-stage) bow as we set sail for Treasure Island! This was written in-house. We are now girding our loins for our 2010 production: Robyn Hood and the Golden Arrow, written by one of our members, Nic James. |
